Hundreds of Prep students from across New Jersey and New York converged at Grand & Warren for orientation this week as we welcomed the beginning of a new school year at Prep.
Members of the Classes of 2028 and 2027 gathered on Thursday, September 4 while the freshman Class of 2029 came together for the very first time this Friday.
The gym was buzzing with anticipation both days as students signed in and were welcomed by Prep President Dr. Michael Gomez, Ed.D., ’91 and Principal Mr. Christopher Caulfield, ’03, among other staff and faculty members like Assistant Principal Ms. Kimby Heil and Dean of Students Mr. John Morris.
“You will learn that the biggest sin at Saint Peter’s Prep is not messing up…[it’s] you not trying your best, your very, very best. And that means you’re not going to give up when you’re tired or when you’re frustrated or when you have a bad day….I expect nothing but your best, all the time,” Dr. Gomez said as he addressed the freshmen.
Sharing memories of “Prep magic,” ranging from the 1989 state championship football game, to Prep’s response to September 11, 2001, opening our doors as a place of refuge, he welcomed the Class of 2029 as the latest participants in a history spanning more than 150 years of Jesuit education.
Across both days, students took yearbook photos, connected with their brothers over outdoor games, prepared for the year ahead, met with faculty and staff, and more.
We wish them all much success in the academic year ahead.
