Music filled the Commons on Friday, May 2 as Prep’s Concert Band, Prep’s Sodality Jazz Band, Vox, and the company of Prep Dramatics’ award-nominated production of Rent: School Edition took the stage for their annual Spring Concert.
Our own Rev. Robert O’Hare, S.J. began the program with a prayer as students, family, friends, faculty, and staff gathered for an entertaining evening, which featured a diverse array of performances and send-offs for members of the graduating Class of 2025.
The Concert Band, directed by Mr. Steve Caslowitz, led the way with old and new favorites, concluding to applause as bombastic as the arrangement of three marches that concluded their set. Vox, directed by Ms. Emily Fencik, followed with tunes familiar to Prep audiences, as well as a send-up to Disney’s Tangled, an opportunity for Vox members to show off both their comedic timing, musical prowess, and earlier learning this year.
Over Presidents’ Day Weekend, select members of Vox traveled to Florida to work with leading industry professionals in a series of workshops, spanning a score session, Broadway, and more. One workshop, Disney’s Broadway Magic, had Vox working with the “Happiest Man on Earth,” Billy Flanigan, to create a scene from Disney Cruise Line’s musical Tangled.
Following Vox, the Sodality Jazz Band allowed Prep students to show off their well-practiced improvisational skills, and finally, Prep Dramatics performed a medley from their most recent musical and were joined by young actresses from schools like St. Dominic Academy and High Tech.
