Georgetown has joined the Common Application for the 2026-2027 application cycle. Applicants to the university have the option of applying through the Georgetown Application, which is available on the GU Admissions website, or through the Common Application.

Is one application favored by admissions over the other?
Georgetown does not have a preference on which platform students use to apply to Georgetown, and there is no advantage to submitting one application over the other.
Does Georgetown require submission of the Common Application Personal Statement?
Georgetown does not require students to submit the Common Application Personal Statement as part of our review process. Students will be asked to answer a Georgetown-specific personal statement question (in line with the Georgetown Application). If a student believes that their Common App Personal Statement would fit this prompt, they are welcome to use it to answer that essay.
Will the Common Application requirements differ from the Georgetown Application requirements?
The Common Application will require the same application materials as the Georgetown Application. This includes the student’s academic information, test scores, two short and two long essays, letters of recommendation, and an alumni interview.
Will admissions still require alumni interviews, even if a student applies via the Common Application?
The alumni interview continues to be an important part of an application to Georgetown. Georgetown University aims to make the alumni interview available for every applicant and students are required to complete their interview when assigned. Some internationally-based students may not be assigned an interview due to availability. This will have no negative effect on their admissions process.
Similarly to the Georgetown Application, students applying via the Common Application will be assigned to an alumni interview upon completing the first step of a two-part process. First, students will submit the Common Application form to Georgetown. The completion of this form initiates the alumni interview assignment. Applicants will then have until their chosen application deadline to submit the separate Georgetown writing supplement through the Common Application platform.
