Rich Hansen III, ’03 will serve as Saint Peter’s Prep’s next athletic director, beginning July 1. Coach Hansen has served as assistant AD for the past 19 years, and Prep Football’s head coach for the past five seasons, following 18 seasons as defensive coordinator.
“Saint Peter’s Prep has been a central point in my life for the last thirty years,” Hansen said. “This place means a great deal to me, and this is a role that I take very seriously. I’m excited and honored to build on the strong foundation of Prep Athletics.”
“Prep Athletics is a source of pride for our entire community, but it’s so much more,” said Prep president Michael Gomez, Ed.D., ’91. “It’s not just about winning; it’s about winning the right way. It’s not just about building athletes; it’s about building the minds, hearts, bodies and characters of Prep men. It’s an expression of all that our mission contains, and Rich has lived and breathed that mission for decades. I can’t wait to see what our athletic program will achieve under his leadership.”
Hansen will take the helm of a program that is integrally woven into the Prep experience, with 18 varsity-level sports and roughly 85% of the student body competing on one or more varsity, JV, or freshman teams. It’s also a program that has shaped him personally and professionally.
“Prep has had a profound impact on me as a student, coach, and educator, and I am extremely grateful for this new opportunity,” he said. “ I am excited about supporting all of our coaches and student-athletes as we continue to pursue excellence together in alignment with the mission of Saint Peter’s Prep.”
