Sixteen members of the Class of 2027 received Magis Awards on June 6 at a ceremony in the O’Keefe Commons celebrating the conclusion of their first year at Saint Peter’s Prep.
Freshmen nominate their peers annually for these awards, which recognize those among them who most embody the Jesuit ideal of the magis—striving toward the “more” or the “greater.”
Following a welcome from Director of Admissions Mr. John Irvine, ’83, P’11, eleven returning members of the graduated Class of 2024 presented these honors to the following freshmen for 2024:
- Gabe Ursic, ’27 of Union
- Jackson Vera, ’27 of Secaucus
- Brendan Kearns, ’27 of West Orange
- Evan Pidane, ’27 of Hawthorne
- Dimitri Sobelev, ’27 of Jersey City
- Philip Sayouwoh, ’27 of Sayreville
- Garrett Ang, ’27 of Jersey City
- Kevin Aby, ’27 of Scotch Plains
- Thomas Kernodle, ’27 of Bayonne
- Edison Li, ’27 of Union City
- Michael McCall, ’27 of Jersey City
- Giacomo LoPorto, ’27 of New Milford
- Lucas Lin, ’27 of Secaucus
- Mahir Jariwala, ’27 of Jersey City
- John McCabe, ’27 of Madison
- Charlie Campbell, ’27 of Jersey City
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Prep President Dr. Michael Gomez, Ed.D., ’91.
“The light that we celebrate today is not just the magis, but simply being together. Together, together, together. That, my brothers, that’s how you crush the darkness,” he said.
We congratulate all this year’s Magis Award recipients.
