2019 Season Highlights:

A Proud Legacy

Soccer began at Saint Peter’s as a club sport in the late 1960s under Brother Tom Daley, S.J., and it remained a club sport until Ron Prezioso, ’68 returned as head coach in 1972. Less than five years later, Prep had captured its first two county championships on the varsity level (’76 and ’77). Connie Gallagher took the reins in 1978 and founded the Hudson County Junior Varsity Tournament, which Prep has won nine times. Jack Raslowsky, ’79 (Prep’s former principal) became head coach in 1985 and led Prep to three straight National Division titles (’87, ’88, ’89). John Irvine, ’83, succeeded Raslowsky and compiled a 204-92-32 career record, including county titles in ’92, ’93, ’94, ’97, ’99 and ’05.

The soccer program at Saint Peter’s prides itself on the sense of teamwork, which is established both on and off the field. Each August the squad attends camp in the Poconos for a week of high-level training. In the off-season, this bond continues through trips to Broadway plays, sporting events and other activities. The unending support of our soccer alumni is proof that the players do not easily forget the bonds they formed while playing for Prep, and each year attendance at our alumni soccer game grows, with last year’s turnout exceeding 50 returnees.
