Dear Prospective Prep Student,
Take a deep breath. Under the best of circumstances, the high school application process is a stressful time for students and parents. The Covid-19 pandemic has, understandably, increased that stress level beyond measure.
I know many of the concerns with which you are struggling because I am also working through those same challenges. What if students can’t visit the school as Freshmen for a Day or at an Open House? Will they still have to take an entrance test? How will the school award academic scholarships? These questions, and many others, along with the additional challenges of hybrid or virtual learning as an eighth grader can seem overwhelming.
Take another deep breath. You will find the school that is right for you, but your search may require a different approach. If you are unable to visit the campus in person, check the website, take a virtual tour or do a virtual Freshman for a Day visit, talk to as many current students as you can and reach out to us whenever you have a question.
Remember, you are not the only student going through this. All of your classmates and, in fact, every other eighth grader in America is in the same situation. You are pioneers and your experience will not only be unique, it will be one that you can look back on proudly, knowing that you met the challenge.
This time next year – when you are settled into your high school – the application process will seem like a distant memory. For now, try to relax and know that we are here to help you through this.
