After a period of reinvention made necessary by the pandemic, this school year saw Prep’s performing arts program return to live performances. A number of accolades this past week provided a “big finish” to this first year back on stage.
Over the weekend, Prep’s Concert Band, Sodality Jazz Band, and Vox traveled to Williamsburg, VA to participate in a music festival. Each group was recognized with an “excellent” rating, and the recently graduated Nikolas Rocks, ’22 received an award for Outstanding Jazz Soloist.
On Monday evening, another recent graduate, Nicholas Matos, ’22 on gave an outstanding performance at the 27th Annual Paper Mill Rising Star Awards ceremony. Nicholas, who was nominated in the category of “Outstanding Leading Performer in a Male-Identified Role,” performed “This is the Moment” from his title role in Jekyll & Hyde on stage at the Paper Mill Playhouse.
This was the second consecutive Rising Star nomination for Nicholas, who became the first Prep student nominated for the prestigious honor, and now the first to perform in the awards ceremony concert. Jekyll & Hyde directors Mr. Adam Bouley and Ms. Emily Fencik, along with producer Ms. Dalma Santana proudly extend their congratulations!
