Despite threatening skies, more than 350 juniors and junior parents braved the heat and humidity Monday evening to celebrate the Class of 2022 at the Junior Class Mass. This traditional celebration of Prep’s junior class recognizes the transition to a role of even greater responsibility in the school community—leading the student body as seniors.
Highlights included the blessing and distribution of class rings and medals as a symbol of the lifelong bond among the Class of 2022—Prep’s sesquicentennial class—as well as recognition of students who will be inducted to the McNally-Sinnott chapter of the National Honor Society and the presentation of the first four Prep Spirit Awards to members of the class.
In keeping with recent custom, Spirit Awards are presented only to seniors during the course of the school year, but several juniors receive awards at year’s end, and serve on the selection committee during senior year. Please join us in congratulating the first four Spirit Award recipients in the Class of 2022, pictured left to right above: Alexander Puhak, Charles Dino, Connor Bankuti, and Lucas Hjertberg.
The Prep Spirit Awards were created in 1981 by then-principal Fr. John Browning, S.J., ’46. The award celebrates young men who model for our entire community the qualities and values that define a Prep student—the characteristics outlined in our mission statement and the Grad at Grad which speak about Prep’s desire to form men who are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice.
