The Ebony Club is one of Prep’s longest-running student organizations, and has taken the lead in a number of ways in the Prep community’s celebration of Black History Month.
First, a schoolwide assembly was held on Zoom with current students and invited guests to discuss the importance and significance of celebrating the milestones Black people have achieved and the reason to remember them.
An evening of viewing the movie “Tell Them We Are Rising” which reviews the history of the creation and growth of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and was followed with a discussion of those in attendance.
Throughout the month members of the Ebony Club have been recording their own feelings as to why it is meaningful to them to pause and reflect on historical events in Black History. The reflections of the Ebony Club Executive Board are included here but, if you want to see all of the students’ comments, visit The Ebony Club of Saint Peter’s Prep’s Instagram account.
