The Saint Peter’s Prep soccer team had a season like no other. With Covid-19 giving so many uncertainties and doubt, the team made sure to take advantage of every opportunity and challenge it faced. Not only did the group, which dealt with daily temperature checks and pods, dominate on the field, but they were great leaders off as well. Coach Josh Jantas continued as head coach and his expectations for the team didn’t change.
The Marauders came into the season knowing it had a younger team. But the squad continued to make some noise in a season full of questions. The team finished with an overall record of 10-6 and finished fifth in the county. The team also qualified for the North East H Non-Public state tournament and made it to the final round, falling to Seton Hall Prep.
The group was led by Anthony Warmuz, who scored 16 goals and had five assists this season. Warmuz finished his career with a total of 33 goals and 12 assists. Jair Arriaga was also a key contributor to the Marauder’s success, scoring five goals and adding 13 assists, while Jon Dereka had three goals and five assists. Goalie Connor Bankuti had a total of 25 saves, while Tommy Burton added 24 saves of his own.
It may not have been the season many wanted or expected, but the team capitalized during a time where many struggled. Congratulations to the entire Soccer program and we look forward to the 2021 season.
