The Saint Peter’s Prep cross country team had a season like no other. With Covid-19 giving so many uncertainties and doubt, the team made sure to take advantage of every opportunity and challenge it faced. Not only did the group, which dealt with daily temperature checks and pods, dominate on the course, but they were great leaders off the course as well. This season was Coach Chris Caulfield’s fourth season as head coach and his expectations didn’t change.

The Marauders continued its trend of success by having yet another record breaking year. Prep, which had to battle through some injury and adversity, finished the season ranked 15th in the state and first in the Non-Public A North section. As a team, they went on to four-peat at the Hudson County Championships while breaking its own Hudson County and school course average at the first meet of the season with a time of 15:48.

They also went on to win its first-ever Non-Public A North State Sectional title, cementing themselves as one of the best cross country programs Saint Peter’s Prep has seen. The group also received victories at the Jersey City Championships, the Saint Dominic Invitational and the Back to the Mountain Invitational.

Fordham-commit Rodolfo Sanchez led the charge for the Marauders, winning the Hudson County title in 15:43.7 and finishing second at the state sectional meet. UPenn-commit Edwin Klanke, Coastal Carolina-commit Ethan Blackwelder, Alex Schimmel, Jack Glynn, Jack Sipperly and Patrick McCabe were vital contributors to the Marauder’s success as well.

SPP Cross Country Seniors 2020/2021

The team graduates more than ten seniors and returns one of the top seven runners. It may not have been the season many wanted or expected, but the group capitalized during a time where many struggled. Congratulations to the entire Cross Country program and we look forward to the 2021 season.
