The Saint Peter’s Prep football team returns after a stellar 2019 season which saw the Marauders win the NJSIAA Non-Public, Group 4 title against Don Bosco Prep. What’s the goal this season? To return to the top of the mountain. The Marauders are excited to be back and ready to get on the field after being sidelined for most of the summer due to the coronavirus.
Coach Rich Hansen will be in his final season as the head coach for the Marauders. Hansen, who has an amazing record of 270-75-1, has coached at Prep for over 30 years and has won five state titles, including two undefeated seasons, in the process. Although this will be his last season on the football field, he will continue as the athletic director and a key role for the Super Football Conference.
Prep, which is ranked No. 1 in the NJ.com preseason top 20, returns plenty of key players that contributed to the state title last season. Quarterback Tahj Bullock, a recent Virginia Tech commit, will be back to lead the charge. Bullock had 2,274 passing yards, almost 500 rushing yards and 32 total touchdowns last season.
Another key player for Prep will be defensive lineman George Rooks, the No. 2-ranked recruit in New Jersey. The 6-5, 270 pound phenom, who had nine sacks and 71 tackles last season, will also be participating in the 2021 Under Armour All-American Game. Other key contributors will be Avery Powell, who had the game-winning interception against Don Bosco last season, Jaylan Sanchez, KJ Miles, Christian Lebrun, Jordan Campbell and Sammy Slade.
Prep starts the season against West Orange High School on Friday night in West Orange at 7:00 P.M. Below is the full schedule. Due to COVID-19, the season has been shortened and fan attendance will be very limited. Streaming video will be available via NFHS Network (subscription required).
