Suffice it to say no one in September 2016 or September 2019 or even January 2020 would have expected Prep diplomas to be distributed from one gloved hand to another on front steps and sidewalks all over New Jersey. But this week, a small army of faculty and staff volunteers began the work of presenting diplomas to the Class of 2020.
Scenes of joy, mixed with an abiding sense of the strangeness of these days, have been unfolding house by house, senior by senior, a process that will continue for several more days until each diploma has been delivered, along with the celebratory yard signs that have become a custom in recent years.
Special thanks to Ms. Trish Fitzpatrick, P’07,’16 for organizing the distribution process—inviting volunteers, dividing the more than 220 deliveries into routes, sorting diplomas and signs, coordinating pickups, and providing logistical support throughout.
Next Thursday, May 21, at 4 p.m., the date and time originally set for the Class of 2020’s commencement ceremony, we will share in a virtual prayer service in gratitude for the many gifts of this four-year journey together. A link will be shared in the coming days.
If conditions allow, a modified ceremony will be held during the summer months, so that Prep’s newest alumni can celebrate in person.
Note: more photos will be added to the gallery as they become available.
