The top-seeded Saint Peter’s Prep football team, No. 3 in the NJ.com Top 20, had one goal in mind all season, win a state title. The team did just that on Saturday by defeating third-seeded and No. 1 Don Bosco Prep, 21-14, in dramatic fashion in the final round of the NJSIAA Non-Public Group 4 Tournament at Metlife in East Rutherford.
Tahj Bullock led the charge for the Marauders, completing 10-of-20 passes with 105 yards and a 5-yard touchdown run late in the game.
Bullock, who has become known for his late game-winning drives, scored the final touchdown with 5 minutes remaining in the game after the Saint Peter’s Prep offense drove for 73 yards in 12 plays. Jelani Mason had four catches for 32 yards and scored the game-winning two-point conversion while Ohio State commit Cody Simon scored the first play of the game with a 70-yard punt return.
Quentin Lemon recorded a crucial field goal block with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter and Avery Powell sealed the deal for the Marauders, returning the block punt 65 yards for a touchdown.
The Marauders ended the season 11-1, won its first state title since 2014 and now have a total of 17 state championships.
