Edwin Klanke smashed the 5k course and county record with a 15:19.9 as Saint Peter’s Prep won its third straight Hudson County title at Stephen Gregg Park in Bayonne on Saturday.
Klanke, who broke the previous record of 15:28.8 set by Memorial WNY’s Francis Martingale, won the race by 52 seconds and paced SPP to a 18-74 victory over Memorial. Rodolfo Sanchez (second, 16:11.4), Liam Concannon (third, 16:17.9), Tyler Parrado (fifth, 16:20.5), and Patrick McCabe (seventh, 16:42.8) rounded out the top five. Sebastian Pena and Alex Gudaitis finished in the top 30 and helped Prep run the second fastest course average of all-time, only behind the course record set last year by the Marauders.
Max Hartelius won the freshman 3200m race with a time of 10:45 to lead Prep to a perfect score of 15 points and the freshman team title. Alex Schimmel, Teddy McCarthy and Antoine Hurtado-Barzac finished second, third and fourth. Richard Harrington rounded out the top five, finishing in sixth place.
Ethan Blackwelder won the junior varsity 5k race in 16:52.20 while Kevin Nally, Samuel Leonte and Brandon Schimmel finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Alex Puhak rounded out the top five, finishing in sixth place.
Next up for the Marauders will be the Catholic Track Conference Championships at Greystone Park in Morris Plains on Saturday at 2 P.M.
