The St. Peter’s Prep track and field team, No. 11 in the NJ.com Top 20, showed grit and heart on its way to a third place finish at the NJSIAA Non-Public A Group Championships last weekend at Central Regional High School in Bayville.
The Marauders, which finished with 73 points, finished behind No. 1 Christian Brothers Academy, the champion, and No. 4 Union Catholic.
Richie Luzzi-Liggins led the charge for Prep by winning the 100m (10.90), 200 (new school record 21.31), placing third in the 400 (49.12) and anchored the winning 4x100m relay, which set a new county and school record of 41.65. Ayir Asante, Gus Nations IV and Mason Holland were also apart of the 4x100m relay. Prep now has the fastest time in the state in the 4x100m.
Adonis McGee was a key contributor to the Marauders by winning the high jump (6-2) for the second straight year and placing second in the long jump (21-2.75). Roman Oben Jr placed second in the discus (160-8) while Asante finished fourth in the 100 (11.18) and sixth in triple jump (42-10.25). Joey Morrone placed fourth in the 400 hurdles (56.76) and Chris Brooks placed sixth in the 800 (1:57.83).
The 4x800m relay of Brooks, Paul Ames, Rodolfo Sanchez and Liam Christman rounded out the scoring for prep with another sixth place finish.
Next up will be the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, which will be held at Northern Burlington High School on Saturday at 2:00 P.M.
