The St. Peter’s Prep track and field team showcased its dominance, once again, by winning the NJSIAA North Jersey Non-Public A Championship for the second time in school history on Wednesday at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey.
Prep won seven events and finished with 163 points, outscoring Bergen Catholic by 47 points.
Senior Richie Luzzi-Liggins led the charge for the Marauders, scoring 38 points. The Clemson-bound athlete won the 400m (49.09), 200m (21.62), took second in the 100m (11.08) and was apart of the winning 4x100m relay (42.43).
Senior Adonis McGee won the high jump (6’0), long jump (21-10.5) and took second in the triple jump (42-9.5) while Sophomore Joey Morrone won the 400 hurdles (55.36) in a new school record, took fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.84), fourth in the 400 (51.45) and was apart of the third place 4x400m relay (3:30.42). Senior Roman Oben Jr. won the discus (167-00) and took third in the shot put (48-00).
Freshman Jaylan Sanchez finished second in the long jump (21-3.5) and the 4x800m relay team finished second (8:12.77).
Prep also scored points from Senior Ayir Asante in the triple jump (third) and 100m (fourth), Senior Liam Christian in the 3200 (fourth) and Senior Chris Brooks in the 800 (fourth).
Next up for the Marauders will be the NJSIAA Non-Public A Championships on May 31 and June 1 at Central Regional High School.
