Ahead of Thursday’s graduation ceremony, the Class of 2019 came together on campus for one last time as a group. In the same halls where their lives were reshaped forever, and largely in the very same O’Keefe Commons where they first gathered for freshman orientation, the soon-to-be graduates took some final steps to prepare for life after Grand & Warren.
Highlights from the day can be found in the video above.
As the seniors and members of the faculty and staff came together for a festive brunch, the Petrean staff presented the dedication of the 2019 yearbook to Ms. Terry La Bruno of the math department. Ms. La Bruno is retiring following a distinguished career in education that has included the past 10 years at Prep.
The brunch itself is a moment for teachers and students to share four years of memories, and a healthy dose of laughter as well. In recent years, this has taken the form of a student and a faculty member addressing the group. This year, Nick Galup, ’19 and Mr. Alex Canale, ’05 of the science department took their turns at the microphone (their full remarks begin at 3:10 and 6:00 of the video, respectively).
In the afternoon, the seniors took surveys and sat for exit interviews, both designed to help refine Prep’s – and all Jesuit schools’ – work in supporting the personal and academic development of future students. They then returned to the Commons one last time for graduation rehearsal. Here, in the very same room where they first gathered to take their first steps as Prep students, they now practiced the steps that will take them from Prep students to Prep alumni.
Rehearsal was such a visually striking moment in time-lapse video, we couldn’t resist giving you a shortcut just to that segment:
