On Friday night, 45 Prep students and four faculty/staff members spent the night at Prep to stand in solidarity with youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. We spent time in small group discussions, watched a movie, and heard from guest speakers from Covenant House New Jersey, before unrolling our sleeping bags and bedding down on the floor of the Memorial Gym. By giving up a night of comfort in this small way, we united ourselves with thousands of young people who won’t have the option of sleeping somewhere safe or warm tonight.

Furthermore, through the generosity of Prep families, we were able to raise $13,136 for Covenant House New Jersey (blowing past our original goal of $10,000!). All of that money will go directly to the services that Covenant House provides to young people in need. It was an incredible accomplishment for our first year, and it means that Prep will have a plaque in the halls of Covenant House NJ’s headquarters in Newark.

Our fundraising page is still up, if you would like to further support Covenant House. While this year’s Sleep Out grew out of our Arrupe Week on Homelessness, we hope this can become an annual event, and a lasting partnership!

Thank you again for all of your support. Feel free to check out more pictures from the Sleep Out on the Office of Campus Ministry Facebook page.
