The St. Peter’s Prep track and field team showcased grit and heart as it finished third with 38 points, the most in team history, at Saturday’s NJSIAA Non-Public A Championships at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
R.J Oben Jr. led the way by becoming Prep’s first ever shot put state champion with a 56-01.25 throw while the Marauders received contribution from eight athletes and the 4x400m relay.
Adonis McGee (HJ) and Edwin Klanke (1600) took home second place finishes while Gus Nations IV (400) and Richie Luzzi-Liggins (55) placed fifth in their events. Paul Ames (800), Liam Christman (3200) and Luqman Gbadamassi (400) each finished sixth while the 4x400m squad of Luzzi-Liggins, Nations IV, Joseph Morrone and Gbadamassi finished third with a time of 3:26.91.
Prep will be back in action at the Eastern State Championships held at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York. Meet will begin at 4:30 P.M.
