Prep Fencing completed an undefeated season Wednesday night, topping perennial powerhouse Columbia High School 16-11 to secure the program's first ever state championship. Although Prep had a fencing team in the 1950s and '60s, the current iteration began as a club offering in the 2005-06 school year, making this rapid rise through the state rankings all the more impressive.
With Ash Wednesday on the horizon, Prep is getting a head start on a longtime Lenten tradition – the Mission Drive. Members of Prep Rowing (along with other hardy volunteers) are striving to log one million total meters on four rowing machines in the Moriarty Science Center Lobby by the end of school Friday.
Prep's Black History Month events continued this week, with an assembly on Tuesday featuring radio personality and executive Ebro Darden, and a field trip on Wednesday for the entire junior class to see August Wilson's Jitney on Broadway.
This fall, we will celebrate those in the Prep community – alumni, faculty and staff members, parents and friends – who have excelled in their professional lives, or in service to Saint Peter's Prep. We are currently accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame Professional Achievement and Service Awards, through April 7. A nomination form is below.
As Prep heads into the long Presidents' Day weekend, we say goodbye to ten students and two faculty members from Colegio de La Inmaculada in Lima, Peru, who have been with us for the past two weeks. In addition to time at Prep and off-campus activities with their Prep hosts, the Peruvian students also had the opportunity to visit several other Jesuit institutions – Cristo Rey High School, Fordham University and Fordham Prep, and Xavier High School.
