More than 100 students from Prep and other area high schools joined more than 20 mentors from a variety of professional fields for the inaugural MakeSPP, a daylong hackathon and conference seeking to form “a diverse and creative community to unleash the true potential of technology.”

Held at the end of the 2017-18 school year, the event offered students a number of challenges to put their creativity, problem-solving, and programming skills to the test. One area of competition saw students use data from the State Department’s United States Diplomacy Center in efforts ranging from creative analysis to Virtual Reality projects. These projects were highlighted over the summer on the State Department’s official blog, DipNote.
